Empowering Minds: Mental Wellbeing Initiative by Chinmaya Mission Visakhapatnam West
Bridging the Gap in Rural Mental Health Support

Mental health remains one of the most overlooked aspects of well-being, especially in rural and underserved communities of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Government statistics reveal that nearly 15% of India’s rural population suffers from mental health disorders, yet only 25% receive professional help due to lack of awareness, social stigma, and inadequate healthcare facilities.
At Chinmaya Mission Visakhapatnam West, we believe that mental well-being is a fundamental right, and we are committed to providing accessible, free, and holistic mental health support to those in need.
The mission conducts various spiritual and cultural programs that contribute to mental well-being. These include study groups, discourses, and workshops designed to provide clarity, confidence, and courage to individuals.
In this predominant AI world people are addicted to technology and have become lethargic which has led to obesity, mental sickness etc. The latest smartphones have also taken over the traditional life style in villages too. The rural community is addicted to WhatsApp and insta reels due to which the ancestry of the collective family is broken and ruined not only the family time but also the family bonding This has led to depression, insecurity, fear, health issues and influence of bad habits.
To help people to be enthusiastic, energetic and happy, various programs are arranged to keep them positive and have good health. A counselling session with guided meditation and breathing techniques are very much beneficial in quietening the mind and making them happy

The Growing Mental Health Crisis in Rural Andhra Pradesh
- High Levels of Stress & Anxiety – Socioeconomic hardships lead to emotional distress, depression, and uncertainty about the future.
- Lack of Awareness & Stigma – Mental health issues remain taboo, preventing people from seeking help.
