Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development (CORD)
has been the recipient of many awards, including:

Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project
The awards will be given to non-profit NGOs whose projects embody an exceptional innovative approach to an important development need and hold the greatest promise for:
1. responding directly to the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable, exceptionally marginalized and disadvantaged groups located in low- and middle-income countries to improve their lives aiming at rapid results for improved livelihood,
2. supporting initiatives that lead to developing sustainable outcomes through the scaling-up of the project.
We are proud to share that CORD won first prize in this award at the Global Development Awards competition in 2015.

- Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project: CORD won first prize in this award at the Global Development Awards competition in 2015.
- the Partnership Excellence Award on Imparting Quality Training from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in 2014.
- Innovation: Non-Technology for the Nipman Foundation – Microsoft Equal Opportunity Awards 2019 for its work in the area of Community Based Inclusion and Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
- Nina Sibal Memorial Award: All India Women’s Education Fund Association (AIWEFA) presented to CORD this award in 2006 for its work on “Integrated Community Based Rehabilitation work for differently-abled persons”.
- Best Facilitator Award: CORD received this award in 2006 for its work on promoting and linking self-help groups in Sundergarh District.
- National Women Commission Award for Women Empowerment: CORD received this award in 2002.
- Ojaswini Award for Excellence in Service: CORD received this award in 2000.
- Sadguru Gnanananda Award for Manav Seva Dharma Samvardhani: CORD received this award in 2005.
- Award for Social Service by FICCI Ladies organization (2012) to CORD Siruvani.
- Best Facilitator Award for Promotion & Linkage of Self-Help Groups in Sundergarh District from Women & Child Development Department, Odisha (2006)
- 2014 – Narender Paul of CORD received the “Sudhir Johri Inspired Leader Award” by SOIL (School of Inspired Leadership).
- • 2013 – CORD India received Sulakshana-Ram Janam Pandey Award 2013 conferred by the National Society for equal opportunities for the Handicapped (NASEOH), India.
- • 2013 – Dr.Meera Krishna, Project Incharge of Branch-Siruvani honored by the National Commission of Women for her outstanding work for women empowerment.
- • 2012 – Dr. Kshama Metre, CORD National Director was given the Guardian International Development Achievement Award.
- • 2012 – CORD branch at Siruvani was awarded for Social Service by FICCI Ladies organization.
- • 2012 – CORD at Lathikata was appointed by MORD to audit MGNREGS in its block.
- • 2008 – CORD’s National Director, Dr. Kshama Metre received Padma Shree Award for Social Services from Honorable President of India
- • 2006- The all India Women’s Education Fund Association (AIWEFA) presented CORD with “ Nina Sibal Memorial Award ” for its “Integrated Community Based Rehabilitation work for a differently-abled person”
- • 2006- Received Best Facilitator Award for Promotion & Linkage of SHG in Sundergarh District from Women & Child Dev.Dept of Orissa.
- • 2002- Recognition of Trust work in the field of Women’s Empowerment by the National Commission of Women, one of 10 recipients of the Nation.
- • 2001-Felicitation by NABARD and Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir for SHG promotion in J&K.
- • 2000 – Dr. Kshama Metre Honored with ‘Ojaswani Shikhar Sewa Alankaran’ Award for Excellence in Service by the Times Group
- • 1999 – National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) identified CORD branch in Sidhbari as Resource Centre for 4 Northern States (Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh) till date.
- • 1992 – Selected by the Government of India to represent India in South Korea for Women’s Development and Family Planning as the NGO representative of India.
Dr. Kshama Metre, CORD’s National Director, (a pediatrician and rural development leader) has also received several awards, including:
- Padma Shri Award: The President of India awarded Dr. Metre this award in 2008 for social services.
- Nominated as a Member of the 11th Planning Commission (Primary Health Care) by the Government of India for 2007–12
- Guardian International Development Achievement Award, UK: Dr. Metre received this award in 2012.
- Healthcare Humanitarian Award: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) awarded Dr. Metre this award in 2021.
Dr. Meera Krishna, Project Coordinator of CORD, (a gynecologist and rural development leader) has also received several awards, including:
- Outstanding Woman Award: In March 2013, the National Commission for Women recognized her “selfless” service and honored her with the “Outstanding Woman” award for Empowering Mahila Mandals (Magalir Mandrams) and Sustainable waste management.
Swami Chinmayananda, the Founder of Chinmaya Mission (1951-1993) has been the recipient of many awards, including:
- 1992: The US magazine, Hinduism Today, conferred upon Swami Chinmayananda the Hindu Renaissance Award and the title of the “Hindu of the Year”
Swami Tejomayananda, the former Global Head of Chinmaya Mission (1993-2017) has been the recipient of many awards, including the following for the work done by him for Chinmaya Mission:
- 2004: The Gupta Award
- 2005: The “Hindu of the Year” award by Hinduism Today
- 2012: The Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Award by South Indian Education Society (SIES)
- 2014: The Newsmakers Broadcasting and Communication (NBC) “Newsmakers Achievers Award“
- 2016: The Padma Bhushan Award
Recognized among the top NGOs, Chinmaya Mission has raised over ₹2.56 Crores, ranking 3rd out of 250 organizations in the Tata Mumbai Marathon
